Tug of Mrduja (Potezanje Mrduje)

Mrduja is an uninhabited island between Island Brač and Šolta. The island is closer  to Brač than to Šolta and a legend goes that the inhabitants of Brač and those of Šolta wrangled over whom the island belonged to, so they used a rope in an attempt to pull it from one side of the Split Channel to the other. The people of Brač won the tug of war. In honor of this legend every year there is a competition in a big rope concluding the event with a big party. It is one of the major events on the island. It takes place every year at last weekend in July.
